Mia's magical Manly wish

After being diagnosed with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, 11 year old Mia’s life was turned upside down. With over a year of chemotherapy and radiation treatment ahead of her, Mia and her family were forced to relocate to the city to be closer to the hospital.

The diagnosis was understandably devastating, but sports-mad Mia had dreams of a very special wish to help bring strength and joy to her whole family throughout the treatment – a jam-packed trip to Sydney to meet her favourite sporting heroes from the Manly Sea Eagles!

Sports-mad Mia

Mia is no stranger to sport and enjoys playing netball and competing in dance and cross-country competitions with her friends. Her favourite sports star is NRL’s Daly Cherry-Evans, a Manly player of course! Mia loves to watch Daly on the Footy Show and knew straight away that she would like her cherished wish to include meeting her hero.

Winners are grinners

To kick off her wish, Mia and her family were flown to Sydney – the Sea Eagles heartland. Once there, Mia headed straight to Manly where Daly Cherry-Evans and teammate Brenton Lawrence were waiting to meet her! Mia couldn’t stop smiling as she chatted, took selfies and had a kick with Daly.

In a fairytale finish, Mia and her family received VIP tickets to see the Sea Eagles win at Brookvale Oval that night! At the game Mia wore her brand new Manly Guernsey, signed by Daly Cherry-Evans himself.

A wish to remember

Mia’s cherished wish gave her hope and strength during a long and difficult year of treatment, but according to her mum Christie, the precious memories of their time in Manly will continue to bring joy to the whole family. Says Christie, “She will talk about this for the rest of her life! As will we all.”
