When illness takes childhood away

Grace was just four years old when she was diagnosed with leukaemia, spending months in hospital and in isolation to keep her safe.

When she finally returned to the playground, her dad Matthew remembers her sitting quietly on the sidelines, unsure how to join in.

Serious illness didn’t just affect her health; it interrupted her chance to simply be a child.

A wish that let Grace’s imagination run free

Through the wish anticipation process Grace's wish changed a lot, but in the end, Grace dreamed up a sparkly fairy party filled with colour, imagination and all her favourite things.

Every detail, from her glittering wings to the fairy lights and rainbow treats, gave her something joyful to look forward to after so much time feeling unwell.

Her wish gave her the freedom to imagine, play and rediscover the magic of being a kid.
