Ryan kicking goals after wish
Ryan is a footy fanatic, so the teen was stoked when his wish to meet AFL hero Nat Fyfe came true!
When 18-year-old Ryan, who has cystic fibrosis, started playing football he loved watching Fremantle player and 2015 Brownlow Medallist Nat Fyfe in action. So he wished to meet the superstar AFL player.
Ryan was pumped to receive a special video message from Nat, saying: “It’d be my honour to meet someone as strong and determined as you – so start packing your bags to come over to Perth!”
Ryan and his family received the warmest welcome by his childhood hero and the entire Fremantle footy club. He got to join in training before a blockbuster match, have a tour of the club, meet players and coaching staff, and get fully kitted out in Freo supporter gear.
On the day of the big game, Ryan spent the day chatting and hanging out with Nat one-on-one, describing his idol as a “great bloke”! Ryan’s mum said he’ll never forget the wish experience.
“Nat was just fantastic with Ryan, he made him feel like a mate. Ryan just had the most amazing time on his wish – I have not seen him that happy in a very long time.”
“Ryan was in absolute awe, he just keeps saying he still can’t believe it’s actually happened, that it’s real.”
A DAD’S PERSPECTIVE
Ryan’s dad was thrilled with how the Freemantle Football Club completely embraced his son.
“Ryan had a once in a lifetime opportunity. He had a fantastic experience going out on the field with the players, listening to the coaches, and seeing what goes on behind-the-scenes.
“Meeting Nat has been a wish of Ryan’s for a long time now, and we can’t be more thankful or have asked for a better wish."
