Maximise your tax refund with a tax deductible donation

Maximise your tax refund with a tax deductible donation

A tax deductible donation to Make-A-Wish gives you added benefits beyond knowing you’re making a massive difference to the lives of sick kids. It could also help you maximise your tax refund at the end of the financial year!

Here's everything you need to know about charitable donations and your tax return.

What's a tax deductible donation?

Every time you make a donation of $2 or more to Make-A-Wish, your donation is tax deductible.

You can use your donation as a way to reduce the amount of tax you pay.

That means you could receive a welcome boost to your tax refund, and we get to use the full value of your gift to help kids fighting life-threatening illnesses.

But to make the most of it for your tax return, you must donate before June 30.

How do I include my donation in my tax return?

As long as your donation is $2 or more – and made before June 30 – you can claim the full amount of money donated throughout the financial year in your tax return.

Section D9 on your tax return (Gifts and Donations) deals specifically with charitable donations, so that’s where you should record your donations.

You’ll need to keep a copy of the tax receipt for each donation made. We send a receipt for every gift donated which has all the information you’ll need.

Can my regular gifts be included in my tax return?

Regular gifts to Make-A-Wish can be tax deductible too.

When you set up a regular gift with us, we’ll send you a consolidated receipt for the end of the tax year. This will show all of the donations you made throughout the year. You can then include it in your tax return.

It couldn’t be simpler!

What are the benefits to me?

Put simply, tax deductible gifts can reduce the amount of tax you pay.

You could receive a welcome boost to your tax refund at the end of the financial year – and you’ll get the added benefit of knowing that you’ve helped power wishes.

Can I make tax deductible donations as a business?

Yes you can!

What difference does my tax deductible gift make?

Every day, six children are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Your tax time donation will help bring more wishes to life, creating lasting memories for kids and their families across Australia.
