Brendan Fevola hits the apple isle

Celebrity Supporter Brendan Fevola recently travelled to Tasmania to be involved in a fundraising dinner organised by the Burnie Volunteer Branch. Branch President Joan Burnie says the night was a great success, due in no small part to Brendan’s contribution.

“When we collected him from the airport, he had a brace on his right hand and said he wouldn't be able to do any autographs but was happy to do photos. However, when he saw all the children on the beach waiting for him he just melted and said, ‘I'll have to use two fingers and do the best I can’”.

Brendan’s involvement with Make-A-Wish Australia goes back to 2004, when he presented a wish to a child who was a huge fan. Since then the Carlton football star has always helped to provide footy goodies for wish children and has been a prominent supporter on Wish Day in April each year.

In 2005, a team comprising of Brendan, wife Alex and Jason and Megan Akermanis, won $10,000 prize money for Make-A-Wish Australia on Channel 9’s Bert’s Family Feud. Most recently Brendan dressed up as a Harvey Norman delivery man to present a computer package to Carlton fan Josie on Channel 10’s Before The Game.

“He is truly a great ambassador for us. He was absolutely wonderful when he met with two of our wish families in the afternoon and then with school children, even having a kick on the beach with them. He was very appreciative of the cheese board (made from six Tasmanian woods) and our local cheeses that we gave him”, Joan said.

“This was a truly wonderful experience for our very small city and I hope we can organise another one of our celebrities to come and see us next year.”

Make-A-Wish Australia thanks Brendan Fevola for his support in helping us bring magic and joy to children with a life-threatening illness.
