A word from our National Patron

Robyn Moore Being National Patron of Make-A-Wish Australia has been one of the most humbling and gratifying things I've ever done. Whether I'm speaking at our National Conferences, connecting with Make-A-Wish "angels" (volunteers), meeting Wish Children and their families, granting Wishes as a volunteer, enrolling potential corporate sponsors or watching the reactions of my conference audiences as I share the "life-lessons" our Wish Children have taught me…I know I am part of a unique charity…that taps into the sacredness of the human spirit.

I first heard about Make-A-Wish about 14 years ago when the Hobart Branch President (Sylvia Rouleston) "cold-called" me to walk in their Make-A-Wish Walk! She'd heard I was the voice of ‘Blinky Bill’ and thought I might want to support children. I didn't dress up in the ‘Blinky’ suit and unless I coughed up a Fur Ball on the highway… my walking made no sense! Instead, I recorded a ‘Blinky’ ad asking everyone else to join in the Walk… and they raised $14,000! I fell in love with the Foundation and eventually become National Patron.

Since then I have seen many changes in Make-A-Wish and watched our Foundation emerge as one of the most highly respected charities in Australia. A third of my work is donated to Not-For-Profit organisations… so I have the opportunity to make comparisons. We can all be so proud of the culture, integrity, management, professionalism and spirit within Make-A-Wish Australia. Continued alignment with our Mission, Values and Focus on our Wish Children and the "power of our Wishes"… will ensure 2010 (our 25th Anniversary Year) will be the best ever!!!

We are the custodians of so many "life-altering" stories…it's our privilege to "pass them on"…to "give them away"! There are many REASONS why Wishes shouldn't come true…at Make-A-Wish we are "UN-REASONABLE"…and that's why they DO come true!! Let's continue to share our stories and make un-resonable requests… because most people are dying to be inspired and waiting to contribute.
