The Young Ambassador Program

Our nationwide Young Ambassador program aims to further enhance our Wish granting mission. Young Ambassadors are former Wish children who have been invited to spread the word of magic among a variety of audiences.

A total of 30 young people now make up the Young Ambassador entourage, some are veteran Make-A-Wish presenters others are gearing up for their first time under spotlight. They all display passion, courage, leadership and a willingness to achieve.

Our Young Ambassadors will participate in a variety of tasks on behalf of Make-A-Wish Australia. They may be asked to appear in media photo shoots, represent the organisation at corporate or community events, speak at public engagements and write about their own Wish and life experiences.

Word of our talented group has escaped and our Young Ambassadors are in high demand.

Recently, Kellie Atkinson (VIC) has been interviewed by the Herald Sun and spoke brilliantly at the 2008 Melbourne Wish Ball. Megan George (NSW) was the guest speaker at Brett Ogle’s Golf Day whilst she continues her fantastic support of Make-A-Wish by committing to further events in the coming months.

Jeremy Medlock (NSW) who was granted his wish to attend Wicked in London found himself with another Young Ambassador, Petra Velkovski (NSW), at the launch of the ‘Make a Wish with Mariah Carey’ national campaign held at the Bondi Icebergs Club.

A special mention must go to Kelly Cartwright (VIC) who made all the Make-A-Wish community proud with her exceptional performance at the Beijing Paralympics. Kelly finished sixth in the 100m sprint final and has appeared in 60 Minutes after she lost a limb to synovial sarcoma, a rare type of soft-tissue cancer.

Make-A-Wish Australia CEO, Sandy Brattstrom believes this program is a fantastic avenue for Wish recipients to continue their relationship with Make-A-Wish Australia. “Our Young Ambassadors, many times, have commented on just how important it is for them to continue spreading the Make-A-Wish magic around Australia. They are busy, successful young adults and for them to take time out to support us is just fantastic”, said Sandy.
