Matt meets cricket hero

‘Twas the night before Christmas when all made a fuss,
Not a cricketer was stirring, except for the Huss.

Matt and the boys, waited in the lobby; ‘twas bare,
In the hope that Mike Hussey soon would be there.

The baggy greens were resting in cupboards and beds,
While visions of googlies and leg breaks danced in their heads.

The Aussie hero came down to greet our brave Matt,
With gifts of a shirt, signed gloves and a bat.

The courageous young man and Australia’s cricketing greats,
Chatted at length - as if long lost mates.

Along came Punter, Dougy, Sidsy and more,
Which assured Matty’s arvo was not nearly a chore.

There were photos, hand shakes and laughs with the lads,
Twas etched on Matt’s face - he could’ve put on the pads.

After tips about cricket, sport and his life,
Time for Ol’ Michael Hussey to return to his wife.

What a memory - a great day– Matt had won,
And the young man bid Mike farewell, saying Huss – make a ton.

A special day Matt’s Dad said – it’s the best by a mile,
Huss ensured Matty Bennett would do nothing but smile.

So thanks to Mike, Jude and the team,
You’ve ensured Matthew’s Wish was not simply a dream.

Translation:

14-year-old Matt from Melbourne was able to meet Mike Hussey on Christmas Eve. Matt was incredibly excited saying Mike was simply a “legend” and Dave, Matt’s Dad, told us that Matt was “peaking” with excitement.
